Hey, friends! I’m going to continue to spam your dashes with posts about my Fringe show, because we only have 17 days left to raise $1,120 on our Kickstarter!
"Stubble" follows the life of a young bearded woman, Lola, as she attempts to leave the circus and a life of performance to start a “normal” life as a “woman” (or what she thinks a woman should be) by shaving her beard (a very masculine trait). However, she ends up finding that she’s left one sideshow for another, one that has its own set of constraints and expectations and is just as wild and freaky as the world she left.
Beyond that, the show is about gender, performance, and identity (or lack thereof) - topics we all have experience with, regardless of the life we lead. It’ll make you laugh, it’ll make you go “awww”, it might make you cry, but most importantly, it’ll make you think about the reasons why we do the things that make us “man”, “woman”, or something else entirely.
As with all art, it’s expensive - we’ve got the rehearsal space to pay for, props and costumes to buy and build and rent, and posters and postcards and flyers and programs and scripts and schedules to print, ad space to purchase, and so many other little things that go into a production. Not to mention, no one in the production will be paid unless we have the money left after all other costs have been covered.
So, please please PLEASE - consider cutting down from three cups of coffee to two for a week, and throw five or ten or however many dollars you can spare our way. Your donation goes towards supporting local theatre put on by female and queer artists. You can donate by visiting our Kickstarter page, here. And if you’re in the Twin Cities area, you can purchase tickets to see the show, here.
***ALSO: If you drop a snapshot of your donation confirmation (blurring out your address/card information/etc, of course) in my ask box, I will send you a personalized doodle thank you REGARDLESS OF AMOUNT, in addition to any of the other rewards you get for various levels of backing our project.
So please - donate as little or as much as you are able, and signal boost the poop out of this even if you can’t donate.
